Uyare is an Indian Malayalam-language thriller movie released in 2019 which was directed by Manu Ashokan (in his directorial debut), composed by Bobby & Sanjay, and produced by the sister-trio Shenuga, Shegna, and Sherga.
The film stars Parvathy Thiruvothu, Asif Ali, and Tovino Thomas with Siddique, Anarkali Marikar, and Prathap Pothen in supporting roles. The story follows the life of Pallavi Raveendran (Parvathy), an aviation student who survives an acid attack that jeopardizes her career. Shooting of this movie started in November 2018 and was finished by the end of January 2019.
Uyare was published in India on the date of 26 April 2019. It acquired widespread critical praise and was a significant Malayalam box office hit of the year. It was selected for the Best Debut Feature Movie of a Director at the 50th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), from 20 to 28 November 2019. It was included in The Hindu’s top 25 Malayalam movies of the decade and is majorly regarded as one of the defining movies of the New Wave Movement.

Critical Reception
Ranking the movie 4 out of 5 stars and representing the movie as “poignant” and “classy”, Sajin Shrijith of The New Indian Express said, “From the foremost frame to the last, Uyare is an exercise in restrained, sensitive filmmaking.”
Gautam S. of Deccan Chronicle reported: “Uyare is an interesting and touching film, which will stay in our hearts. It flies high on a touching script and acting.”
Sify.com gave the movie 4 out of 5 stars and reported that the movie is “an overwhelming experience that fabulously describes an admiringly appropriate issue.” Movie critic Veeyen mentioned: “The structural elements of ‘Uyare’ are bound to be expected and the genre anticipations are all in place, in that it has all the requirements of a survivor story. And yet, it’s a tale that requires to be told, time and again, in a world that has turned a time too shady with relationships that have gone all adrift.”
Litty Simon from Malayala Manorama gave the movie 4 out of 5 stars and wrote that “The greatest strength of Uyare lies in its screenplay with minimal yet effective dialogues. by Sanjay-Bobby is crisp and well carved by director Manu. Uyare is admiringly employing right from starting to end.
S. R. Praveen from The Hindu sensed that “predictability is a concern” [in the movie] and was even critical of the background score. He however applauded Parvathy’s work, composing: “Despite the minor quibbles, ‘Uyare’ soars high on Parvathy’s wings.”
