Stree is an Indian Hindi-language comedy horror movie released in 2018 which was directed by debutant Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan and Raj & DK. This includes actors like Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, alongside Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee, and Flora Saini.
The movie is founded on the urban legend Nale Ba, which signifies”come tomorrow” in Kannada, modified as “o stree kal aana” (“oh woman, come tomorrow”) in the movie.
In late November 2017, Raj and DK came to Rao to star in their debut production. To qualify for his part as a tailor, Rao knew how to sew. In December, Shraddha Kapoor was endorsed as the female lead. Amar Kaushik was enrolled to direct the movie in January 2018.
The principal photography was started on the date of 13 January 2018 in Chanderi, with more filming in Bhopal and Mumbai. The final schedule was finished in May 2018. The soundtrack was written by Sachin–Jigar with lyrics composed by Vayu, Badshah, and Jigar Saraiya.
Stree was theatrically released worldwide on the date of 31 August 2018 and obtained positive reviews. The movie made more than ₹180 crore at the box office against a budget of ₹23–25 crore, evolving as a box-office success.
The movie received ten nominations at the 64th Filmfare Awards and achieved Best Debut Director for Kaushik. It is the first installment in Maddock Supernatural Universe heeded by Roohi (2021), Bhediya (2022), and Munjya (2024). A sequel titled Stree 2 is scheduled to be released on Independence Day 2024.

Stree Hindi Movie 2018 Plot
Chanderi village has been haunted for years by a witch called Stree. She abducts men in the dark leaving their clothes behind during the four-day annual festival. Vicky’s young and handsome village tailor disbelieves these stories.
He meets an Unnamed woman who is in the village every year during the festival. Vicky and the women start getting close to each other. But his friends Jaana and Bitu get suspicious that to date only Vicky has seen the woman and believes that she could be Stree.
Critical Reception
Stree achieved a positive critical reception. On the review blog website Rotten Tomatoes, 79% of 14 critics’ reviews are positive, with an average rating of 6.3 stars out of 10 stars.
Anupama Chopra of Film Companion rated the movie 3.5 stars out of five stars, saying that “With laughs and scares, Stree gives a critical message.”
Anna M. M. Vetticad of Firstpost even gave it 3.5 stars out of 5 stars, honoring Rao’s acting and the film’s humor. She noted “The main reason why Stree is so effective, though, is that it does not caricature the people of Chanderi—they are as simple and foolish, prejudiced, and good as most human beings are, and could well be you or me with less complexity.
Rajeev Masand of News18 rated it 3.5 stars out of 5 stars, saying, “Stree is extremely entertaining, packed with laugh-aloud points and a cast that’s on top of their competition. It’s one of the most original films this year, and I suggest that you create time for it.”
Rachit Gupta of The Times of India gave the movie 3.5 stars out of 5 stars, saying the superlative writing and dialogues, but handled the movie was slightly too long and had some “ambiguous ideas”.
Raja Sen of the Hindustan Times carried a more reasonable tone, praising the actors’ energy and collaborative efforts but stating a rushed-feeling plot: “The laughs are unreliable, and the plotting feels sloppy and rushed. The concepts are fine, but the script required more work.

Stree Hindi Movie 2018 Songs Collection
The songs for the movie have been written by Sachin–Jigar. The lyrics are composed by Vayu except for one song “Aao Kabhi Haveli Pe” which is composed by Badshah and Jigar Saraiya.
The score, which is composed by Ketan Sodha, who had previously worked on Talvar, also included an extract of the theme song from Mission: Impossible (1996), with an Indian instrumentation in a comedic way. The entire soundtrack, comprising four tracks, was published on the date of 22 August 2018.
Also, an additional song titled “Dil Ka Darzi” was published by Maddock Films. This music, which was not part of the official jukebox, was formed in the film’s title credits and was intended for Rao’s character, a ladies’ tailor. Composed by Vayu, he completed the music alongside Prakriti Kakar.
Vipin Nair of The Hindu gave the soundtrack 2.5 stars out of 5 stars, noting that it is entertaining but expected. Debarati S. Sen from The Times of India declared in her review that the album is feasible to “appeal to the masses”.
