A game changer for Sidharth Malhotra. Commanding act. Unmissable!. Director Vishnu Vardhan tells the story of Shershaah with highest competency. Screenwriting is interesting for most parts. The war sequences are performed with a flourish. The ending is foolproof to exit you moist-eyed”.
Anna M. M. Vetticad of Firstpost rated the movie 2.75 stars out 5 stars opining “Captain Vikram Batra biopic is fascinating as an Army procedural”, mentioning it as Malhotra’s best performance since Kapoor and Sons, and that “Vishnu Vardhan could not have discovered a more reasonable mainstream star to join him in memorializing one of India’s favorite war heroes.”
Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV rated the movie 2.5 stars by telling Malhotra “has what it carries to display Batra with efficiency.” He finished”The cinematic firepower and flint take Shershaah much higher – and further – as a war drama”.
Anupama Chopra of Film Companion reported, “The film’s clunky structure doesn’t permit it to accrue tension or exercise a grip, but it arrives to live in the second hour once the competition starts”.
Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express rated the movie 2 stars out of 5 stars stating that “the Sidharth Malhotra movie has neither the vital drama inherent in a cracking war movie nor does it increase patriotic goosebumps”.
Composing for Hindustan Times, Rohan Nahaar applauded the screenplay but slammed the direction saying that the “smartly choreographed action, a reverent tone, and Sidharth Malhotra’s sincere performance can’t make up for Vishnuvardhan’s rough direction”.
