Bollywood Hungama rated 4 out of 5 stars and noted “Shaitaan is a nail-biting suspense laced with superlative arrangements and clapworthy climax that holds you committed”.

Dhaval Roy of The Times of India rated the movie 3.5 out of 5 and noted “Even though Shaitaan’s story stumbles at times, the skillful use of atmosphere and top-notch acting upgrade it into an unsettling knowledge worth having”.

Sana Farzeen of India Today rated the movie 2.5 out of 5 stars and noted “Shaitaan falls short, likely cursed by a weak script and the stress of driving a remake”.

Lachmi Deb Roy of Firstpost gave 2.5 out of 5 stars and commented “Shaitaan could have been a satisfactory supernatural thriller, which we haven’t seen largely in Bollywood cinema of late, but it turned out to be a total mess in the process of displaying the war of good vs evil. It’s a badly made remake and the narrative is just not reasonable. Making the hero win at the end makes the movie simply too predictable”.

Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV rated the movie 1.5 out of 5 stars and noted “Jyothika is the only one in the cast who can grow a bit beyond the sheer absurdity of the proceedings. The two male characters and the actors recreating them don’t stand a chance”.
