On the review aggregator blog Rotten Tomatoes, 63% of 16 critics’ reviews are good, with an average rating of 5.4 out of 10.
NDTV’s Saibal Chatterjee gave the movie 3 out of 5 and commented “The movie does not depend on action for effect. And the script provides that the talk isn’t boring. The editing maintains pace with the speed at which the research unfolds and the directorial flourishes confirm that the movie is never less than riveting.”
A critic from Bollywood Hungama gave the movie 2.5 out of 5 stars and noted “Despite a slow story Murder Mubarak depends on the performances and unexpected climax.”
Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express gave the movie 2.5 out of 5 stars and commented”This is the closest any movie has reached to re-creating Anuja Chauhan’s universe, very rare can do the insider-outsider divide with such acuteness, both intense and warm.”
Sukanya Verma of Rediff rated 2 out of 5 stars and supposed that “Despite director Homi Adajania’s ease around strange ensembles and macabre touches, Murder Mubarak fails to pull the spectator into its shallow world of the vain and wealthy”.
