Laapataa Ladies Hindi Movie 2023 Plot
A recently married husband loses his traditionally-veiled wife on a packed train in a case of false identity and brings home another newly-wed, veiled bride—unbeknownst to either party until the husband gets his village home, and the wife the incorrect railway station.
The plot pursues his search for his true wife; the journey of the wife left at the wrong station; and the true meaning of the woman who discovers herself in the incorrect village.

Critical Reception
On the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, 100% of 11 critics’ reviews are positive, with an average rating of 8.2 out of 10. Laapaata Ladies obtained critical praise.
Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV placed the film at a rating of 3.5 out of 5 and said that Kiran Rao returns to the director’s seat “with a work that hits the correct notes. She does away with marquee names in Laapataa Ladies… and uses three first-timers in a positive tale of two brides seen in a horrible mix-up.”
Bollywood Hungama gave the movie 3 out of 5 stars, noting, “Laapataa Ladies works due to the entertaining plot, performances, underlying message, and some amazing funny and touching scenes.”
Catherine Bray of The Guardian rated the movie 3 out of 5 stars and declared, “If you can get with the larky belief, Kiran Rao’s tale of mixed-up newlyweds makes for a gently feeling comedy of manners.”
In a review for The Indian Express, Shubhra Gupta rated the movie 3.5 out of 5 stars and reported, “Kiran Rao’s film is unapologetically message-y, but its extremely beating feminist heart overrides the broad brush strokes. Sometimes things require to be commented loud and precise.”
Rishil Jogani of Pinkvilla gave the movie 4/5 stars and said that Laapataa Ladies “is humorous, witty, quirky, entertaining and empowering. It is a significant film that correctly utilizes the power of cinema”.
Tushar Joshi of India Today stated in his review that “‘Laapataa Ladies’ is a fantastic watch just because it is put joint so nicely. The length might be a small problem, but if you support your heart into this tale of two women gone missing, you will be in for a treat.”
Rajiv Vijayakar from Koimoi rated the movie a solid 4.5 stars out of 5, claiming, “A seemingly rural slice-of-life dramedy unexpectedly spirals into a strong social statement!” He further noted, “The movie is thus not just value-for-money entertainment but a film you will carry home with its evolved angles, not just for women but even for society.”
