Jigarthanda DoubleX is an Indian Tamil-language action drama movie released in 2023 written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj and together produced by him, Kaarthekeyen Santhanam, S. Kathiresan, and Alankar Pandian under Stone Bench Films, Five Star Creations, and Invenio Origin.
The film is a spiritual successor and prequel to Jigarthanda (2014) and includes actors like Raghava Lawrence, S. J. Suryah, and Nimisha Sajayan. This movie is set in the 1970s, it spins around an upcoming policeman attempting to kill a gangster by going underground as a filmmaker.
The movie was officially revealed in the date of August 2022, with the tentative title Jigarthanda 2, and the official title was revealed in December. The principal photography started the same month in Madurai followed by a schedule in Thandikudi and surrounded by early-July 2023. The movie has music written by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography managed by Tirru, and editing by Shafique Mohamed Ali.
Jigarthanda DoubleX was published on the date of 10 November 2023, the week of Diwali, to critical praise, with recognition directed towards its direction, script, cast performances, music, cinematography, production values, editing, emotional depth, and action series.

Critical Reception
Krishna Selvaseelan of the Tamil Guardian rated the movie 4.5 out of 5 stars and stated, “Subbaraj may have produced his best movie yet. The movie betters its first installment in every department.”
S. Devasankar of Pinkvilla rated the movie 4 out of 5 stars and mentioned, “Jigarthanda Double X is a must-watch in theaters. It delivers a wholesome cinematic adventure, with exceptional writing, performances, music, and cinematography. Despite the exaggerated runtime, the movie will surely satisfy the viewers.”
Manoj Kumar of OTTplay rated the movie 3.5 out of 5 stars. He wrote, “Karthik Subbaraj delivers an interesting cinematic experience with moving visuals and powerful performances while highlighting the cinema’s duty towards society to create a sense of life.”

Lakshmi Subramaniam of The Week rated the movie 2 out of 5 stars and noted, “The second installment to move close filmmaking with a gangster at the center. If you had overlooked the first chapter of Jigarthanda and predicted something great from Subbaraj, you are probably to be dissatisfied.”
Bharathy Singaravel of The News Minute reported, “Jigarthanda DoubleX is a tormented confession of Karthik’s political beliefs, almost three hours long, with some elements of his more premature brand of filmmaking always in tow.
If Karthik Subbaraj thinks that cinema is a means to political change, he must put more thought into it, than simple gestures that might garner a few claps.” Clint Eastwood said he wished to see the movie after completing his ongoing duties.
