Dangal Bollywood Movie 2016 Plot
Mahavir Singh Phogat, a retired unprofessional wrestler prepared in the pehlwani style of Indian wrestling, is a national wrestling champion living in Balali, Haryana. His average Indian father pushes him to leave the sport to acquire gainful employment.
Discouraged he could not succeed in a medal for his nation, he promises that his unborn son will. Dissatisfied with retaining four daughters, he quits his hope. But when his more senior daughters Geeta and Babita come house after smashing two boys in reply to derogatory comments, he acknowledges their potential to evolve as a wrestlers and starts coaching them.
His methods appear to be harsh, like grueling early morning workouts and short forced haircuts. Despite encountering backlash from the locals, he proceeds ahead with them, teaching them in his makeshift mud pit. Originally, the girls resent their father for his treatment but soon recognize that he watches for their future. Motivated, they first experience wrestling tournaments where they beat boys.
Unfit to buy wrestling mats, Mahavir utilizes mattresses and trains them in freestyle wrestling to train them for competitive occasions. Geeta proceeds on to succeed in the junior and senior championships at the state and national levels before running to the National Sports Academy in Patiala to qualify for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
Once there, Geeta makes friends and starts to break the discipline introduced by Mahavir under pressure from her coach Pramod Kadam, whose training methods and wrestling styles totally vary from her father’s. Therefore, she fails every game at the international level.
During a visit home, she beats a visibly tired Mahavir in a brutal bout after arrogantly taunting him. Babita reminds Geeta of her blunder and that she should appreciate Mahavir. Soon after, Babita succeeds the national championship and tracks Geeta to the academy. After the two sisters have an emotional conversation in which Babita supplies her motivation, Geeta tearfully completes peace with Mahavir.
Before the Commonwealth Games, Pramod forces Geeta to contest in the 51 kg weight class preferably than in her regular 55 kg. Upset upon learning this, Mahavir proceeds to Patiala with his nephew Omkar and starts coaching the girls privately. Learning about this, and furious with Mahavir’s interference, Pramod likes the girls expelled; the sports authority cases a warning but permits them to resume.
Mahavir is banned from joining the academy, and the girls are banned to go out. Determined to resume helping his daughters, Mahavir gets tapes of Geeta’s previous unsuccessful bouts and coaches her by showing out her mistakes over the phone.
At the contests, contending in the 55 kg class, Geeta relaxes her way into the final. Mahavir frequently disagrees with Pramod’s instructions while sitting in the audience, and she pursues her father’s instructions rather. Just before the gold medal bout, envious Pramod plots to close Mahavir in a room.
In the bout, Geeta succeeds in the first session but fails the second. Trailing 1–5 in the final session and with nine seconds left, she remembers the tactics conducted by her father and a 5-pointer, and manages it on her opponent in the final three seconds, bringing the score to 6–5 in her favor, thus succeeding the session and the bout 2–1.
In the cycle, she evolves as the first Indian female wrestler to get gold at the Commonwealth Games. Mahavir returns simply in time to embrace his daughters, running Pramod’s hopes of getting recognition before the news media.
