Chhichhore is an Indian Hindi-language coming-of-age comedy-drama movie released in 2019 which was directed by Nitesh Tiwari, composed by Tiwari in association with Piyush Gupta and Nikhil Mehrotra, and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, with Fox Star Studios obtaining the distribution rights.
Established on Tiwari’s experiences as a student of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, the movie includes stars like Sushant Singh Rajput, Shraddha Kapoor, Varun Sharma, Naveen Polishetty, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Tushar Pandey, and Saharsh Kumar Shukla in the lead roles, with Shishir Sharma and Mohammad Samad in supporting roles.
Set parallelly in the 1990s and 2019, Chhichhore describes the tale of Aniruddh “Anni” Pathak, a middle-aged divorced man whose son Raghav attempts to commit suicide after failing to pass the JEE entrance examination, and who, despite survival, is forced to live due to the fear of being engraved as a “loser”, which makes a hopeless Anni recount his own experience to Raghav of his own time at college, wherein he and his five friends also were named ‘losers’, and how they worked to clear that ‘tag’; as he resumes along to tell his tale, the other five join their friend & finish the story.
The principal photography began in the date of September 2018. Chhichhore was published on the date of 6 September 2019, acquiring widespread critical and commercial praise for its direction, storyline, dialogues, humor, ensemble cast performances, social message, and portrayal of hostel life in Indian colleges.
This movie Earned ₹215 crores (₹2150 million/$28 million) worldwide to appear as a blockbuster, it acquired the National Film Award for Best Feature movie in Hindi at the 67th National Film Awards declared in the year 2021.
It even acquired five nominations at the 65th Filmfare Awards – Best Film, Best Director for Tiwari, Best Story, Best Dialogue, and Best Editing. This was Rajput’s last dramatic release and penultimate appearance before his death on the date of 14 June 2020.

Critical Reception
Sukanya Verma critic for Rediff sensed that Chhichhore showed “too good a moment to spend attention to its faults”, offering the movie 3.5 out of 4 stars. Sreeparna Sengupta of The Times of India rated the movie 3.5 stars out of 5 stars, glorifying the work of Sushant Singh Rajput, Shraddha Kapoor, Varun Sharma, and Tahir Raj Bhasin.
Sengupta stated that the screenplay was predictable and the speed was slow, but the movie had a theme of academic victory that related to youngsters and parents, noting that, “it [Chhichhore] reveals you that the journey is far more significant than the destination and that failing is as critical a life lesson as winning. The movie scores high on multiple accounts and is definitely worth watching.”
Monika Rawal Kukreja from Hindustan Times noted that “the Sushant Singh Rajput-Shraddha Kapoor movie takes you on a nostalgia trip to your college days with an interesting narrative and flashback series”.
Rahul Desai of Film Companion lauded the movie, namingit a “solid, homegrown college film for the ages”, also adding that, “Chhichhore is a hoot, but it’s not flawless. Ultimately though, it’s Tiwari’s understanding of mainstream emotional dynamics that tide the mistakes over to frame an enjoyable movie”. Rajeev Masand, a critic for News18 rated the movie 3.5 stars out of 5, naming it [Chhichhore] “good, innocuous fun”.
Bollywood Hungama in its review noted that “on the full, the Sushant Singh Rajput Shraddha Kapoor starrer Chhichhore is a proper entertainer that has its share of connecting scenes”, while providing it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Umesh Punwani of Koimoi lauded the movie, calling it “a king-size platter fitting entertainment and emotions”, also adding that, “with quite a numerous outstanding work, it’s a movie that will linger in your mind long sufficiently after you leave the cinema hall”, and rated it 3.5 stars out of 5.
Prachita Pandey of DNA rated the movie 3.5 stars out of 5, stating that, ” ‘Chhichhore’ pushes home the point that in life’s battles between succeeding and losing, the most significant thing is ‘life’ itself” while honoring the movie for prompting the viewers on “a nostalgia trip”.
Udita Jhunjhunwala critic from Mint glorified the movie by naming it a “lively homage to hostel life”; moreover honoring the film’s humor, she called it “organic”. The Economic Times rated the film 3.5 out of 5 stars, calling it a “likable movie with the appropriate social message”, further adding that the film contains “plenty of nostalgia and warm, feel-good moments, many frat-boy jokes, and some genuinely laugh-out-loud moments”.
The movie found complaint from Rachel Saltz of The New York Times who named the movie “programmatic and timid”. Vibha Maru of India Today sensed that the film was “no 3 Idiots”, rating it 2.5 stars out of 5.
Shalini Langer of Indian Express slammed the work of Sushant Singh Rajput and called the movie “a disappointing fare”, rating it 1.5 out of 5 stars. Anna MM Vetticad criticized the movie, naming it “a hotch-potch with a 3 Idiots hangover”, rating the movie 1.75 stars out of 5.
Arnab Banerjee of Deccan Chronicle rated the movie 2.5 out of 5 stars, and while he blamed the movie for its writing and direction, he sensed that “some of the characters are played by decent actors”
