Ae Watan Mere Watan is a Hindi-language historical biographical movie released in 2024. This movie is about India’s fight for freedom in the year 1942, on the life of Usha Mehta, a daring young girl who begins an underground radio station to extend the message of unity, setting off an exciting chase with the British authorities during the Quit India movement.
It is composed and directed by Kannan Iyer and produced by Karan Johar, starring Sara Ali Khan as Mehta. The movie was premiered on the date of 21 March 2024 on Amazon Prime Video.

‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’ is a biopic on Usha Mehta (Sara Ali Khan), a freedom warrior who began an underground radio station to support the spirit of the Quit India Movement. This was necessary since most Congress leaders were imprisoned at the moment, and local radio was prohibited.

Critical Reception
A critic from Bollywood Hungama rated 3/5 stars and noted “Ae Watan Mere Watan is worth observing as it presents an untold chapter of the Indian past.”
Sukanya Verma of Rediff.com rated 3 out of 5 stars and noted “Ae Watan Mere Watan attempts to obtain a grasp on the mind of youngsters, shaped by the words of motivating leaders, dedicated to the cause of independent India. It’s important because their support isn’t founded on ‘Andh bhakti’ (blind devotion), but leadership that inspires questions”.
NDTV’s Saibal Chatterjee gave the movie 2.5 out of 5, saying in his review that, “Ae Watan Mere Watan earns its points with transparency and directness. It reveals a tale that has meat, but the storytelling style that the movie adopts controls it extremely short of being either always riveting or memorably rousing”. He slammed the lead performance, saying, “Sara Ali Khan, playing the principal character, is way too porcelain and delicate to get the extremely doughty woman’s fierce determination.”
Zinia Bandyopadhyay of India Today rated the movie 2 out of 5 stars and noted that “Ae Watan Mere Watan drowns in a lackluster script despite having the possibility to be a convincing story.”
Firstpost’s Lachmi Deb Roy, in her review, rated the movie 2 out of 5 and said “Though the movie was capable of weaving the freedom movement with sufficiently human stories offering Usha’s contribution to the Quit India movement, Ae Watan Mere Watan was incapable to provide us those goosebumps which a freedom film typically does”.
Shubhra Gupta of Indian Express quoted the movie a “banal blur”. She panned the movie, opining that “nothing about this period drama breaks out of familiar moulds” and that “Sara Ali Khan departs small impact.” However, she reached Sparsh Srivastav the “breakout star”, applauding his performance as a polio-afflicted young freedom fighter.
Trisha Gaur from Koimoi gave the movie a 3.5 out of 5 stars and said “When Sara Ali Khan, for the first time, presents Congress Radio, ‘Hindustan Mein Kahin Se, Kahin Se Hindustan Mein,’ you like to root for her”.
